TODAY I’M INTRODUCING YOU TO SOMEONE WHO IS VERY CLOSE TO YOU, A CONSTANT COMPANION IN FACT, AND YOU MAY NOT BE VERY AWARE OF THEIR PRESENCE IN YOUR LIFE AT ALL!
Meet your subconscious mind.
Believe it or not it rules over 93% of your daily activities! (And you thought YOU were in charge!!)
When you are working to achieve goals, desires and dreams it is your subconscious mind that teams up with you – OR NOT! That explains how we can choose to make a new start (IE New Year’s resolutions) and then very shortly find ourselves in the same old place. It is all because the subconscious mind has not ‘bought into’ what you want to achieve so it is going about its business as it always has.
Why does this happen? I mean, doesn’t your whole self want you to healthy? At a great weight for example? Thriving rather than just surviving?
Well, yes. But the subconscious mind has different priorities. Its job is all about survival. It’s all about the NOW, not tomorrow.
Here’s a scenario – You have resolved to drop weight. You are doing great. Then, you have a particularly stressful day at work or with the kids or the partner. Stress and angst is building to a pitch. Enter your subconscious mind. The mind’s priority is to relieve the stress and all those yucky feelings that go with it. ”Oh yes, that cupcake is soothing (in the moment.) That makes me feel better. I deserve it for putting up with this challenge.” And there goes the resolution.
What’s the answer? To get everybody, both conscious and subconscious mind, on the same page. To ‘feed’ the subconscious mind new alternatives that will relieve those stresses and create health. Then it can meet its priority to keep you safe and your priority to get healthier.
Great – how does this happen? Clarity. Knowing what is in play and then using tools such as Neurolinguistic Programming, Hypnosis, Tapping and more to create the environment where all ‘parties’ can get into agreement.
